Ali Zaman — Consultant

I am a research and development practitioner with over five years of experience in child labour, public health, and environmental sustainability. I previously worked as a Research and Documentation Officer in the FCDO-funded CLARISSA project on behalf of the Grambangla Unnayan Committee in cooperation with the Institute of Development Studies, where I facilitated participatory action research with children and young people in Bangladesh’s leather sector. Currently, I work with the Grambangla Unnayan Committee, leading research and communication on tobacco control, urban plastic management, waste pickers’ rights, and plastic-free tourism. I have conducted field assessments, community-based surveys, and applied extensive research methodologies with marginalized groups, including the slum children and informal workers. With a background in Population Sciences, my research interests focus on child rights, labour, migration, and environmental justice. I am passionate about participatory approaches that amplify community voices in research and advocacy. In addition, I maintain and update the websites of Grambangla Unnayan Committee (https://grambanglabd.org/) and Datasearch (https://datasearchbd.com/). Moreover, I make digital content for social media and websites, and video documentaries of social development programs of the Grambangla Unnayan Committee.  I have a Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS) and Master of Social Sciences (BSS) degrees in Population Science from the University of Dhaka.
